FAQ's

Please see our Frequently Asked Questions below. If you have any other queries, please do get in touch!

How many Hay Bales can I hire?

We have a minimum hire of 2 bales if delivery is within Clevedon/Portishead. If further afield the minimum is 10 bales. Our Hay Bales have been used for Weddings, Corporate Events, Street Parties, Fetes and Nativities just to name a few, so whatever the event we can always accomodate.

What is the standard hire period?

Hay Bales are usually hired for 3 days, including the day before the event for delivery, the day of the event and collection the day after. Please pop in your enquiry if you would like your Hay Bales for a shorter or longer hire period.

How far in advance should I book?

We find that booking sooner rather than later is the best option. We are in peak season during the Summer months so we especially recommend booking in advance for this period.

How do I get the bales?

There are currently three options:

- Collection with your own transport (No extra charge)

- Delivery and Collection by Country Hay Bale Hire (Contact for quote)

- Self-Haul with Country Hay Bale Hire & HK Trailers. Hay Bales are pre-loaded by a Country Hay Bale Hire staff member on collection. (3 day hire period £105, if different please contact for a quote)

What happens when you deliver the bales?

We deliver the Hay Bales to the access point and unload them within 10 metres of the delivery vehicle. If you need the Hay Bales delivered to somewhere else on site this will incur an extra charge.

Can I use Hay Bales in the rain?

Hay bales will be okay during a couple of light showers, however if they get left out in heavy rain they will be unusuable and therefore a cost will be incurred.

We provide tarpaulins with hire in case of rain and if hiring a trailer, we recommend the Box Trailer where possible to avoid any rain damage and provide storage.

Can I collect the Hay Bales with my own transport?

Absolutely! There is no extra cost associated with this, only the fee of the Hay Bale hire. Collection is by prior appointment only so please pop this in your enquiry.

What times of year do you hire?

All year round! We make several hundred bales every year around June/July so stock is not an issue.

What time can I pickup the bales or have them delivered?

You can pick up or have the bales delivered anytime between 9am-7pm Monday to Saturday or 10am-4pm Sundays. Collection times are the same. If you require out of hours collection or delivery we may be able to accomodate however it can incur an extra charge.

Please note if hiring a trailer, times are different.

What are the dimensions and weight of the bales?

The Hay Bales are roughly 1m x 1m x 0.5m and weigh approximately 19kg

How many people do Hay Bales seat?

Depending on the size of the Hay Bale (as they can vary), they will seat 2 adults.

Where do you deliver and what is the cost?

We will generally deliver anywhere in North Somerset, Bath & North East Somerset, Somerset, Bristol, Devon, Newport, Cardiff, East Wales.

The venue must be accessible by 4x4 and trailer if Country Hay Bale Hire are delivering.

Delivery costs vary depending on location and accessibility, however generally outside of North Somerset delivery will be a minimum of £75. Please contact for a bespoke quote.

Whats the difference between Hay and Straw?

Hay is grass that is mown, turned and harvested and creates a soft surface to sit on. It is usually used for animal feed. Straw is usually used for animals bedding and is made of the stalks of wheat or barley which are then harvested. The stalks are a lot thicker than grass so are not as comfortable to sit on. This is why we provide Hay Bales, not Straw.

Where can I use the Hay Bales?

We recommend outdoor use or on hard flooring. You are welcome to use hay bales indoors on carpeted areas, however the clean up can be extensive as hay bales will shed during transport and use, so we don't recommend this. Country Hay Bale Hire is not liable for any damages that may occur to venues during hire and it is the customers responsibility to clean any loose hay and to communicate with the venue that Hay Bales will be used.

Are the bales flame resistant?

The Hay Bales are not flame resistant or fire retardent as they are a natural product and not treated. Please do not expose to open flames or heat sources as they are extremely flammable.

Do you hire anything else?

We currently offer Hessian Covers for the Hay Bales at £1 per cover and will shortly be able to hire out pallets for table use.
